Agri-Culture announced that Aromas native Lauren Bellone has been awarded its Jeannie Witmer Memorial Scholarship for 2012. The Scholarship is a $1,000 award for a student who has participated in the California High School Rodeo Association District 4, or a California 4-H Horse program within the same geographical boundaries: Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Francisco and San Mateo counties.
New challenges for farming and the organic food movement

Sarah Wood has been traveling the country for the past two years, volunteering at urban homesteads and organic farms in exchange for fresh food and a place to stay. Along the way, the 24-year-old has gathered knowledge and skills she hopes will one day translate to having a farm of her own.
An elaborate exhibit featuring Santa Cruz County received a Silver Medal at the California State Fair in Sacramento last week. The exhibit was among 30 County displays that were shown at the State Fair.
